To the ancient Egyptians, a coffin was much more than a container to house the dead. The texts and images on coffins served to guide their occupants to the afterlife and to provide protection and sustenance along the way. This gallery talk led by curator Denise Doxey will introduce visitors to the significance of Egyptian coffin decoration, as well to related developments in mummification, masks and sarcophagi.
