The two most important women in Christ’s life and all of Christianity, the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene are known for their devotion and love for Jesus Christ. In this talk by graduate student gallery talk speaker Denva Jackson, we will focus on different representations of the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene considering the ways in which their gestures, facial expressions, and their proximity to Christ express their unique and personal relationship with Christ. What can we learn not only about Mary and Mary Magdalene but also about female piety through these representations?
