Musical Instrument Gallery Talk and Demonstration

Local performer Mal Barsamian will discuss the origins, construction, and music of the ‘ud, a type of lute that is considered the most highly esteemed instrument of the Islamic world. A focus of the program will be an outstanding ‘ud from the MFA’s collection, made in Constantinople in 1899 by Emanuel Venios, who is considered one of the most significant makers of such instruments from modern times.
