February is a month when stores are stocked with candy to celebrate St. Valentine's day--a celebration surrounding the death of a Christian Saint. At the same time, it also was the month of an ancient Roman religious festival. Join us as we explore this interesting paradox through art. In this gallery talk we will examine the art of medieval Europe and its relationship to holy men and women, including the tropes of Greco-Roman antiquity. This gallery talk will be led by guest lecturer Christopher Gilbert.
