Musical Instrument Gallery Talk and Demonstration

Northeastern University student Yan Zhao will discuss the history, repertoire, and playing technique of the pipa, a lute-like instrument from China. She will demonstrate the music of this ancient but still popular instrument using her own modern steel-strung pipa, and the program will likewise feature her playing the Museum’s much older silk-strung pipa, dating to 1891.
