Musical Instrument Gallery Talk and Demonstration

Noted local performer and teacher Durga Krishnan will discuss the history, repertoire, and playing technique of the sarasvatī vīnā, an ancient type of long-necked lute that is still the primary instrument of classical music in southern India. Ms. Krishnan will perform on her own vīnā, and a beautifully decorated example from the MFA’s collection will be on hand for comparison.
