New England Conservatory Professor of Music Peter Row discusses the history, repertoire, and playing technique of the sitar, a type of long-necked lute that is the primary instrument of classical music in northern India. Professor Row performs on his own sitar, and a beautifully decorated example from the MFA’s collection is on hand for comparison. Ajay Sinha, Professor of Asian Art at Mount Holyoke College, joins Row for this presentation on tabla (drums).
