Musical Instruments Gallery Talk and Demonstration

Local performer Carol Lewis will discuss the history and repertoire of the pardessus de viole, the smallest member of the viola da gamba family. She will demonstrate various instruments, including a five-string Parisian instrument from the Museum’s collection (Benoist Fleury, 1752), a recently constructed copy of that same instrument, a copy of six-string example made by Louis Guersan, and two five-string instruments loaned by Harvard University’s Music Department, made by Simon Gilbert (1730) and Guersan (1761). Joining her as accompanist will be Olav Chris Henriksen on Baroque guitar.
