Barbara W. Herman Memorial Lecture
Gay Robins, Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor of Egyptian Art, Emory University
The Egyptian principle of truth, balance, and order was personified in the goddess Maat who set the order of the universe from chaos at the moment of creation. Explore how the concept of maat was embodied in ancient Egyptian jewelry. The materials used, the symbolism of their colors, the significance of the motifs all resulted in layers of meaning that gave jewelry a cosmic significance to the wearer.
