Estelle Shohet Brettman Memorial Lecture
Elizabeth S. Bolman, associate professor, Tyler School of Art, Temple University; director, Red Monastery Conservation Project, American Research Center in Egypt
Discover the Red Monastery church, one of the most remarkable recently conserved monuments of late antique Christian Egypt, comparable to the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. View a brief documentary chronicling the campaign to clean the frescos of this monastic church, which was on the endangered list of the World Monuments Fund. Bolman interprets the various frescos and engages us in the cultural and artistic life of early Christian Egypt.
Tickets for free programs are available at all ticket desks on the day of the event only. Tickets are first come first serve and exclude gallery admission.
