From the launch of their first collection in 2005, Rodarte's designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy have been lauded by the fashion and art worlds for their expression of a deeply personal vision through exqusitely crafted clothes. Kate and Laura's awards and recogntion from the art, fashion, and design industries include the 2009 Designer of the year award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. In 2010, their designs were the subject of a solo show at the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. In 2011, "Rodarte: States of Matter" opened at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and then in December 2011, "Rodarte: Fra Angelico" opened at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Rodarte's work includes contemporary art projects, critically acclaimed costume design for the 2010 film Black Swan, and a collaboration with Frank Gehry for the Los Angeles Philharmonic's 2012 production of Mozart's Don Giovanni.
