An elegant, adventurous writer of disarming humor and grace, Terrance Hayes is one of the most compelling voices in American poetry. His work reflects on ideas of music, visual arts, race, history, and popular culture. Hayes is a recipient of the 2014 MacArthur Foundation “Genius Grant” and winner of the 2010 National Book Award in Poetry for his collection titled Lighthead. His work has been described as a “dazzling mixture of wisdom and lyric innovation” (National Book Award). Through readings and discussion, explore with Hayes how his life and poetry intersects with film, news, music, and family cultural histories.
