In this conversation with Matthew Teitelbaum, Ann and Graham Gund Director, hear how over the past 30 years, Christian Marclay has explored the fusion of visual arts and audio cultures, transforming sounds and music into a visible, physical form through performance, collage, sculpture, installation, photography, and video. Born in California and raised in Switzerland, Marclay attended the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. He currently lives and works in London.

The Clock, his 24-hour video collage, premiered in 2010 in London and won the Golden Lion prize at the Venice Biennale in 2011. As The New Yorker stated, “By presenting a day in the life as a ceaseless parade of fictional narratives, he had confirmed Joan Didion’s dictum that ‘we tell ourselves stories in order to live’ while reminding us that we are all going to die.” “Christian Marclay: The Clock is on view at the MFA from September 17, 2016, to January 29, 2017.
