For many years, lovers of Japanese prints have enjoyed the beautiful landscapes of Hokusai and Hiroshige but have largely ignored the equally wonderful figure prints designed by Kuniyoshi and Kunisada during the same time period. Now we are happily rediscovering these great artists and are exhibiting, often for the first time, treasures that have been preserved at the MFA for more than a century but are amazingly well suited to 21st-century taste. How did the MFA acquire the prints, and how did the curators come up with the idea for this show? Find out in this lecture!
