Gallery Activities and Tours

Open to all members. Activities and programs for ages 4 and up take place throughout the Museum. Create art, enjoy an interactive performance, go on a kid-friendly tour, and more. Admission is based on your membership privileges.

Member Family Day: Big and Small

Family Tours

Join us for a kid-friendly tour of big and small objects in the collection. Tours last 30 minutes. Great for all ages!

Story Hour

Drop in to enjoy stories about big and small. Great for toddlers. Stay for one story or the whole hour.

Shadow Puppets
Shapiro Family Courtyard
Creep over to see Goya’s Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters. Draw inspiration from Goya’s frightening monsters to make your own scary or friendly shadow puppet. Hold your puppet in front of a flashlight, and notice how the puppet’s shadow gets bigger and smaller when you move it closer and further from the light.

At 13 feet tall and 13,000 pounds, Juno is a giant! Visit this ancient goddess and notice how she is standing, the clothes she wears, and her facial expression. Design your own giant sculpture that represents strength and power.

Mini Portraits

Take a look at John Singleton Copley’s miniature portraits. These tiny faces were made for travelers taking long trips at sea. Make a portrait of someone special.

Nifty Netsuke

Look at the range of Japanese netsuke on display. Inspired by people, creatures, and all kinds of objects, these little toggles hold clothing together. Make your own netsuke using model magic.
