Singing in Bassa, a language and tradition that he has long championed, and mixing guitar, banjo, cello, and trombone, Cameroonian musician Blick Bassy draws connections between the itinerant musicians of his childhood and journeyman American blues legend Skip James. Blick’s work makes subtle references to a musical palette that ranges from the Gypsy swing flavors of his Wap Do Wap to the sparse and haunting singer/songwriter classic-in-the-making Ndjél.
