Cordis has been redefining contemporary chamber music by fusing an original combination of custom-made and traditional ethnic instruments to create their signature sound. Although the ensemble is built upon cello (Jeremy Harman), concert cimbalom (Richard Grimes), piano (Brian O’Neill), and percussion (Andrew Beall), one-of-a-kind creations such as the electric mbira, melodica, and the world’s longest playing cylinder-driven music box also have a way of weaving their way into any given performance. Time Out New York said, “(Cordis) makes a strong case for both sides of its musical personality—expanding the boundaries of chamber music.” NewMusicBox.com concurred: “Cordis offers an intriguing mix of instrumentation, and Grimes uses them well to show off his unique perspective on 21st century chamber music.”
