Dr. Maia Nuku, Associate Curator of Oceanic Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Dr. Maia Nuku, Oceanic Curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will present her research on early missionary collections of Polynesian gods and their extraordinary materiality. She will explore often eclipsed cosmological aspects of Oceanic art which have tended to get lost in the historical and museological record. This lecture will discuss a selection of central Polynesian artefacts and assess their potential in current debates about museums and display.
