Bad Hair (Pelo Malo) by Mariana Rondón (Venezuela/Peru/Germany, 2013, 93 min., 35 mm). Junior, wants to have his curly hair straightened for his yearbook picture, so he can look like his favorite pop singer. This puts him at odds with his mother Marta, who believes Junior’s fixation with his looks, means that he’s gay. Bad Hair is the intimate story of a nine-year old child’s initiation to life.
