As one of the most prolific cinema industries in the world, Iranian films receive global praise from critics, filmmakers, and moviegoers. Iranian filmmakers work under censorship laws, and the government recently sentenced filmmakers Jafar Panahi and Mohammad Rasoulof for “committing crimes against the country’s national security and propaganda against the Islamic Republic.” Panahi’s This is Not a Film and Rasoulof’s Good Bye, while both banned in Iran, screen as part of our festival.  Also included in the festival is Iranian auteur Abbas Kiarostami and his trilogy of films made in the Northern Iranian village of Koker (Where is the Friend's House?, And Life Goes On, and Through the Olive Trees).

All films produced in Iran and are in Persian with English subtitles. For the January 21 screenings, please use the State Street Corporation Fenway Entrance.
