Inspired by the Alfred Stieglitz and Charles Sheeler photography exhibitions now on view, as well as the recent establishment of an independent department of photography, this course explores the history of the MFA’s esteemed holdings from its beginnings as one of the first art museums to ever collect photography thanks to Alfred Stieglitz— through today, where the collection has grown to span the medium’s history. Photography at the MFA continues to innovate and break new ground. Learn about today’s photography trends and international practitioners.
