Hippie Chic
Lois B. and Michael K. Torf Gallery (Gallery 184)
Taking students back in time to 1967 through 1972, “Hippie Chic” showcases the colorful and fun spirit of “hippie” style that informed the beautifully made garments of “chic,” in 54 ensembles complete with paisley, velvet, and far-out wigs.
Vintage VW Vans

Take your photo with two vintage VW vans—hop in the back and give your best peace sign or pose with your favorite '70s rock star on the painted van.
Tie-Dye Fashion Art
6–9 pm
Explore the tie-dye artwork that came into vogue during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Learn about the different styles and innovative techniques popularized during the psychedelic era. Join in and try to create your own small tie-dye piece to bring home.

Take a break from exploring the museum and enjoy a free scoop of Bindi gelato at Taste Café, just steps from the bookstore, contemporary galleries, and tie-dye artist demonstration.
The Legend of Cool “Disco” Dan

Use your University Membership to buy discounted $9 tickets to see The Legend of Cool “Disco” Dan by Roger Gastman and Joseph Pattisall (US, 2012, 90 min.). This film explores the turbulent post-“Hippie Chic” 1980s through the eyes of DC’s most visible graffiti artist at the time. Discussion with directors follows the September 26 screening.
