Joshua Baer is the world’s foremost appraiser of nineteenth century Navajo wearing blankets. He is the author of three books about Navajo blankets, Collecting the Navajo Child’s BlanketTwelve Classics, and The Last Blanket. At this event, Baer will be showing a small collection of classic Navajo chief’s blankets, serapes, and slave blankets, all woven prior to 1860. Attendees will be able to touch and wear the blankets from his gallery. Baer will also give a brief talk regarding the art and the history of the Denman Ross First Phase Chief’s Blanket, Navajo, circia 1840’s - the rarest Navajo blanket in the MFA’s collection.
