From the launch of their first fashion collection in 2005, Rodarte’s design duo Kate and Laura Mulleavy were lauded by the fashion and art worlds for their expression of a deeply personal vision through exquisitely crafted clothes. The Mulleavy sisters’ countless awards from the art, apparel, and design industries, including the Council of the Fashion Designer’s of America Designer of the Year award in 2009 as well as a solo show at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum of Design in 2010. Rodarte’s work includes contemporary art projects, critically acclaimed costume design for the 2010 film Black Swan, and a collaboration with Frank Gehry for the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s 2012 production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
This lecture is part of the Shapiro Family lecture series and will be followed by an exclusive reception in Bravo with the artists for Fashion Council members.
