Yvonne Markowitz, Rita J. and Susan B. Kaplan Curator of Jewelry

Between 1936 and 1953, the American jewelry firm Trabert & Hoeffer Inc. collaborated with the French house of Mauboussin, creating some of the century’s most stunning ornaments. The firm had shops in several cities and was responsible for popularizing the Moderne style in the United States. Explore what made the company successful at a time when other jewelry establishments tried desperately to survive.
