Meet speaker Elizabeth Bolman, associate professor, Tyler School of Art, Temple University, at this private reception following her lecture, “The Red Monastery Church and the Angelic Life in Christian Upper Egypt.” During her lecture (at 2 pm in Alfond Auditorium), learn about one of the most remarkable, recently conserved monuments of late antique Christian Egypt, and view a film about the campaign to clean the frescoes of this monastic church, which was on the endangered list of the World Monuments Fund. Bolman interprets the various scenes and engages us in the cultural and artistic life of early Christian Egypt. Laurel and Lotus members can request reserved seating at the lecture. This is a joint event for Laurel Society and Lotus Society.
