Take a closer look at the extraordinary loan from the Philadelphia Museum of Art: Paul Cézanne’sThe Large Bathers with Emily Beeny, Assistant Curator, Paintings. Cézanne’s masterpiece will be hung side by side with the MFA’s own Where do we come from? What we are we? Where are we going? by Paul Gauguin. Together, these two paintings form a bridge from the 19thto the 20thcentury and influenced a whole generation of modern artists that included Picasso and Matisse. Explore how each painting addresses a classical tradition of representing the idealized nude in an idyllic landscape and how both also break with convention, offering up radical new visions of early paradise.

Please meet at Sharf Visitor Center at 6:30 pm.
Talk will conclude at 7 pm, followed by drinks and informal conversation with Emily Beeny at Bravo. Cash Bar.
