THIS CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Dates: Wednesdays, September 25-December 4 (no class November 27)

Course Description: Draw from a live model and explore aspects of draftsmanship, including shading, proportion, gesture, perspective, and composition. Examine line to describe action, draw from memory, and visit the MFA collections of figurative work in the galleries to find underlying ideas, themes, and a common language. This class is designed for students of all levels. Required materials: 2B and 3B pencils, 14x17 inch Strathmore drawing pad, an Exacto knife, and an art eraser.

Instructor: Paul Goodnight

Paul Goodnight’s vibrant and emotional work has often been a reflection of his life—from the demons he faced during the Vietnam War to the time he was incarcerated. “I’ve learned that art is making me, rather then me creating it.” His creative efforts are nurtured and inspired by several local artists, like Allan Rohan Crite and Dana Chandler. Goodnight had a close relationship with Master African-American artist and mentor John Biggers (1924-2001), who carved the path many contemporary black artists now travel.
