Dates: Tuesday, Ten-week session, April 2- June 11 (no class April 16)
Course Description: Join us on this journey through the MFA and its collection. Each week, students are introduced to a specific gallery and art making technique. Starting in the Art of Asia, this ten week class travels to China, Japan, Ancient Greece, Impressionist France, mid-century America and on to the 21st Century and the MFA Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art. Art making techniques include, papermaking, sumi-e brush painting, working in clay, printmaking, collage, pastel drawing, watercolor and more.
Instructor: Joy Buell
Joy Dai Buell received both her BFA and MFA in printmaking from Yale University. She also has a BS in education from Tufts University and a diploma from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. She is known to offer superb criticism and encouragement. She is honest and constructive in assessing students’ strong and weak points and provides insightful instruction to foster further artistic development. Buell maintains a studio in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and takes students to France to work “en plein air” every August.
