Course Description:
Learn the fundamentals in this intensive beginning level digital photography class.
Digital photography is a fantastic way to explore your creativity and document your life and the world around you. This beginning class will introduce you to the basic elements that have made photography the unique art from it is. Through in-class, hands-on demonstrations, a “Photographer of the Week” presentation, you will learn about the advantages that digital technology offers and be able to use your camera with greater facility.
Topics covered over the ten weeks include: Lenses, Aperture & Depth of Field; Camera Body, Shutter-Speed & Motion; ISO & Getting to know light; Exposure, the Light, Meter & Histogram; Color & White Balance; Sensors, Noise & Resolution; Digital Formats; Electronic Flash; Basic Composition & Design.
Required Materials:
A Digital Camera. It is important to have a digital camera with manual control over the exposure controls of aperature, shutter-speed, ISO and focus.
Recommendations:
DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) cameras
These cameras have a body and separate, interchangeable lenses and many accessory options.
The DSLR type camera is highly recommended for these classes.
"pro-sumer" "superzoom" or "bridge" cameras
These have a small body and one fixed zoom lens. Not as versatile but okay.
This type of camera will do in a pinch.
"point & shoot" or "compact" camera
These are fine but lack any interchangeability or options or options for additional accessories like flash.
Not recommended.
Instructor: Fran Osborn-Blaschke is a photographer who graduated from the New England School of Photography professional program. His artistic vision is influenced and inspired by his family, science, astronomy, music and poetry. His photographs have been shown at various venues in the New England area, including the Photographic Resource Center, the Danforth Museum of Art, and the Griffin Museum of Photography.
