Dates: Fridays, September 27- December 6 (No class November 29)

Course Description: In this class, learn the ancient technique in casting a plaster bust. Sculpt a 1/2 life-sized head from a live model using an oil based clay, construct a one-time-use mold, and create a copy of the original in plaster. Chip away the mold, to reveal the final plaster bust, then sand and mount the finished product. Limited Enrollment. All materials are included.

Instructor: Morris Norvin

Morris Norvin began studying art at the age of 8 at the Museum of Fine Arts, continued through high school, and then went on to graduate from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Today he teaches the very same sculpture classes he took from Ralph Rosenthal as a child at the MFA; Morris is also the founder of Stonybrook Fine Arts, an educational sculpture studio in Jamaica Plain. He has worked with a diverse range of materials including metal, wax, clay, wood, plasticine, paper, glass, and polymers. His preferred method is welded steel incorporating found, functional objects, which he terms “Junk Art,” and his work is mainly figurative and somewhat anatomical.
