Course Description: Create 3-D forms to explore mass, space, texture, and the expressive potential of the medium. Make sketches for studio projects, and strengthen technical skills while working with wax, plasticine, wood, and wire. Materials provided.

Morris Norvin began studying art at the age of 8 at the Museum of Fine Arts, continued through high school, and then went on to graduate from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Today he teaches the very same sculpture classes he took from Ralph Rosenthal as a child at the MFA; Morris is also the founder of Stonybrook Fine Arts, an educational sculpture studio in Jamaica Plain. He has worked with a diverse range of materials including metal, wax, clay, wood, plasticine, paper, glass, and polymers. His preferred method is welded steel incorporating found, functional objects, which he terms “Junk Art,” and his work is mainly figurative and somewhat anatomical.

Stephanie Spinks started taking mixed media classes with Leila Rosenthal at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in 1993 and continued for several years. She continued to focus on art throughout her youth and graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in 2008 with a BFA in illustration. She works with traditional media as well as graphic design and printmaking.
