Recommendations:

DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) cameras
These cameras have a body and separate, interchangeable lenses and many accessory options.
The DSLR type camera is highly recommended for these classes.

"pro-sumer" "superzoom" or "bridge" cameras
These have a small body and one fixed zoom lens. Not as versatile but okay.
This type of camera will do in a pinch.

These are fine but lack any interchangeability or options or options for additional accessories like flash.
Not recommended.
