To make the most of your group visit to the MFA, please take a look at our Tips for Groups before requesting a visit.
tips for all groups
Requesting a Group Visit
To book a group visit, you must complete an online request form. Requests should be made at least four weeks in advance of your visit.
Cancellations/Changes
For cancellations or changes to a reservation, e-mail groups@mfa.org or call 617-369-3310.
Optimal Times
Guided tours for School Groups are scheduled for weekday mornings. We strongly encourage other groups to visit during weekday afternoons for easier entry and to avoid crowded galleries.
ADDITIONAL TIPS FOR SCHOOL/YOUTH GROUPS
Multiple Visits
Book multiple visits with your school group during the school year, and receive a discount. First and second visits are full price. Subsequent visits are $3 per student. You must book all visits at one time.
Chaperones
One chaperone for every 10 students is required and admitted free. Additional adults are charged $18 each.
Gallery Capacity and Guidelines
In order to ensure a meaningful learning experience for all students, gallery capacity is monitored. If a gallery is full, the MFA’s Protective Services staff may advise a group to wait before entering.
Please download guidelines for proper group behavior in the galleries.
Lunch
Limited space for your school group to eat lunch is available on a pre-registered basis. The cost of reserving tables is $40 per half hour. Tables accommodate 60 students (larger groups need to reserve multiple time slots).
Groups may reserve lunch tables and bring bagged lunches, but are not allowed to eat in the cafeteria.
Groups are also welcome to eat bagged lunches outside on MFA grounds, free of charge, with the exception of the Calderwood Courtyard where it is not permitted. Please note that there are no sheltered outdoor spaces, nor are there indoor facilities, available during winter months or inclement weather.
