Circular medal for the École Polytechnique, commemorating the centennial anniversary of its foundation.
Obverse: Semi-nude woman sits with schools and books on her lap and rests her right arm on an orb while supporting an inscribed tablet with her left hand; armor, a cannon, and an oven are at her feet and a tower, aqueduct, and a blimp are behind; a hen sits on her nest full of eggs in exergue; inscribed above “x ECOLE POLYTECHNIQUE x” and below “MAX BOURGEOIS”.
Reverse: A cloaked man wears a hat stands at proper left; signed at below and inscribed above “x LAMBLARDIE x MONGE x CARNOT x PRIEUR x”, at center “·1794-1894·/—/FONDATION DE L’ECOLE/DECRET DU XXI VENTOSE ANII/—/CENTENAIRE/XI MARS MDCCCLXXXXIV/CARNOT/-(PROM..DE 1857·)-/ETANT/PRESIDENT/DE LA REPUBLIQUE FRANCAIS”, and below “M” elised with “B”.
