DescriptionGround: heavy white linen. Design: horizontal band with zig-zag, angular flowering vine and small birds, between narrow borders of small lions, on a square mesh ground, worked with white linen thread. Threads have been drawn out in both directions through ground and pattern, the pattern filled with "loop stitch". See Stapley, Popular Weaving and Embroidery in Spain. page 53, fig. 18. The design dates from 17th century workmanship probably later. Edged on three sides with coarse bobbin lace to which woven fringe is sewed.
