The break is near the bottom of the neck. The face, neck, and particularly the hair show remains of a heavy incrustation. Otherwise the piece is in excellent condition, with an exquisite softness of facial surfaces, akin to that of the “Maiden from Chios”. The head has the soft, indefinite modeling associated with the so-called Alexandrian style. Type and proportions recall those of the Knidian Aphrodite, and this head must have come from a small statue of Aphrodite or a half-draped nymph.
