Sample of cotton batik with design of Diagonal bands of irregular irnament divided by three narrower bands of more conventional design, the middle band having a dark blue ground, the design is printed with neutral orange, light neutral orange, dark blue and black.


Purchased through Dr. Ananda K. Coomaraswamy for the MFA from the private collection of the Javanese prince Ario Kusumodiningrat, an elder brother of the then reigning sultan in Surakarta (Solo); April 7, 1921
