The design consists of a vase from which grow three lilies, between two birds, affronted. A couchant lion at each end completes the design. The heavy round mesh is hooked into the pattern. Similar lace has been called “South Italian” and “Flemish or German” by Mrs. Paliser. See the plate 75 and plate 26 in her “History of Lace”.
