This bar brooch consists of three circular gold elements that serve as surrounds for three silver coins. The obverse of the center coin features the profile head of Poseidon with a trident in the lower right corner; on reverse is a seated woman in profile with an erotes on her knee. Beneath her is the Roman word “Brettii,” an indigenous Italian people who emerged in southern Italy in the mid-fourth century BC. The smaller, flanking coins feature profile heads on the obverse; the gold mount covers most of the reverse on these coins.
