DescriptionThis limestone canopic jar and lid are carved of white limestone. The jar has virtually straight sides that flare outward from the base to wide-set shoulders and slighly rolled rim. The lid is disc shaped, characteristic of the Old Kingdom. The interior cavity was bored and widened by chisel at the top. The stone has been chipped slightly. Otherwise the jar and lid are in good condition.
ProvenanceFrom Giza G 2353 B. 1912: excavated by the Harvard University–Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; assigned to the MFA in the division of finds by the government of Egypt.
