This necklace is a collaborative work between gem sculptor Tom Munsteiner and his wife, jewelry designer and goldsmith Jutta Munsteiner. It consists of nineteen, graduated, circular citrines with a “cat’s eye” incised off-center on each. Each citrine is set in an open-back gold bezel separated by navette-shaped gold spacers. One surface of each citrine is flat and has a high polish while the other surface, the side with the incision, is domed and has a matte finish. It can be worn either way.
1998, designed and created by Tom and Jutta Munsteiner, Germany; 2012, gift of Tom and Jutta Munsteiner to the MFA. (Accession date: October 24, 2012)
