DescriptionThe raised pear-shaped body rests on a spreading, domed circular foot. The foot is constructed of a cast base joined to a raised midsection. The curved spout, cast in two pieces and seamed vertically, has an acanthus leaf at the tip and a molded drop at the base. A band of engraving encircles the neck of the pot just below the applied wire rim. The double-scrolled wooden handle has faceted mounts, the upper of scrolled foliage and the terminus of scroll form covered by a leaf. The hinged, stepped, domed lid has a baluster finial. The hinge is set into the molding wire.
Marks On underside, maker's mark EF (Grimwade 587), repeated inside cover; lion passant (repeated inside cover); leopard's head crowned; date letter d.
InscriptionsARMORIALS: engraved on one side, the arms of a spinster member of the Hickes family of Shipston-on-Stour, co Worcester; engraved on other side, the crest of the same; engraved on cover an unidentified later crest (a wyven with wings addorsed)
