DescriptionThis squarish block has decoration on 2 adjoining sides, executed in high relief and depicting vegetal motifs. It is perfectly flat on the top and the bottom. Similar capitals are found at late antique ecclesiastical sites in Egypt and Syria.
ProvenanceFrom Ihnasya el-Medina (Herakleoplis Magna), House L. 1903-1904: excavated by William Matthew Flinders Petrie for the Egypt Exploration Fund, assigned to the EEF by the Egyptian government; 1905, presented to the MFA by the EEF. (Accession date: January 1, 1905)
