DescriptionIn a period frame, with eighteenth- or early nineteenth-century letterpress label affixed to backing board. Label reads: "Charles Thomson Secr ... / du Congrès." A similar label has been affixed to the front of the image beneath the scene.Originally reading "Congress", the strip has been "translated" into French by the addition of an accent grave over the "e" and the blotting out of the second "s" with ink. Charles Thomson was the secretary of the Continental Congress throughout its existence, from 1774 through 1789.
