Lead-glazed earthenware with lustre and transfer-printed decoration. Cylindrical bowl with applied handles. Slightly domed lid with everted lip and a button finial. Pink splash lustre on handles and sides of bowl. Transfer-printed image of a ship on one side and the Iron Bridge on the River Wear with the inscription “A WEST VIEW OF THE CAST IRON BRIDGE. OVER the RIVER WEAR built by R. Burdon ESQR/ span 236 Feet. Height 100 Feet. Begun 24 Sept. 1793 Open 9 Augt 1796.” on the other. Cover is decorated with two triangular areas of pink splash lustre divided by transfer-printed flower sprays. Pink lustre band around the rim, around the finial, and on top of the finial.
