Don Quixote is riding his horse Rocinante along the outer wall of an inn. He holds a lance in his right hand. His left hand is raised toward the wall of the inn, in a gesturing position. In the air, over the wall Sancho can be seen.
A wooden sign hangs on the left wall of the inn.
A large rock is at the base of each corner of the inn.

In stone, below image b.l. H Vernet 1818; VERSO c.l inside and around the edge of an oval MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS BOSTON MAS, inside is a smaller oval with 34450
