The netting of neutral violet silk is worked with gold and silver thread (thin strips of metal wound on silk). The design consists of the monogram I. H. S. in a field of stars and rosettes. At one end are the words “Clemens Octavus”, at the other “Pontifex Maximus.” (He was Pope from 1592-1605.) Surrounding this is a border of leaves and acorns. Mounted on neutral violet silk and edged with gold lace into which has been run a thin strip of gold.
