DescriptionEcuelle and cover. Raised écuelle with a flat circular base and slightly rounded plain sides. A cast ring handle is applied on each side, ornemented with leaves. The stepped raised domed cover with flared lip has a thin applied border of diagonal gadrooning and an applied bezel. It is topped by a cast disc of radiating leaves and a cast finial of pineapple form.
Marks Marks:
maker (innerside of cover, bottom of bowl): before the revolution, crowned fleur de lys, two grains, JNB, sheaf of wheat(Nocq p.167, Dennis p.44 #67)
Warden's mark (inner side of cover, bottom of bowl): 1789-1790: a crowned P with 89 (Dennis p.44 #67)
Charge mark (inner side of cover, bottom of bowl (illegible?): 1789-1792 an A in a circle (la data. de l'orfevrerie parisienne p.162 #553)
Discharge mark (outer lip of lid, outer rim): head of a man in a jester cap. For old work: farm of JF Kalendrin from 1789 feb.23 to oct 1792 (la data. de l'orfevrerie parisienne, Tardy p.112)
Other (outer lip of lid, bottom of bowl, outer rim): discharge mark: a vigne leaf (difficult to see, in la data de l'orfèvrerie parisienne p.162 #553), a little boar head, guarantee mark for small work after may, 10 1838. Head of a man with a "phrygien" hat, petite recense de l'an VI (1797) pour les ouvrages marqués des poinçons de l'ancienne régie. Paris (Tardy p.165)
