DescriptionEcuelle and cover. raised ecuelle with a flat circular base and rounded plain side. A flat triangular handle is soldered on each side, with a cut card border and an applied cast shelf in the middle against a matted ground. The raised stepped circular cover has an applied border of gadrooning and an applied bezel. The center is a large flat disc ornemented with a cut card work of ninepins with applied ribs, radiating from the base of the drop ring handle.
Inscriptionsmarks:
maker (underside of bowl): PF with a crown (Helft, p.204 #556, ill. p. 200).
warden's mark (underside of bowl, underside of cover-without the date letter): crowned O with two grains and MPI, Montpellier 1717-1718.
Charge mark (underside of bowl, underside of each handle, on the cover handle): N, fleur de lys, two grains: juridiction of Montpellier 1717-1721 (Tardy p.141). Three fleurs de lys and a star: underfarmer for the province of Languedoc 1700-1717.
Other (underside of bowl): unidentified countermark.
